Reduction of both carbonyl functions of IV and V simultaneously with diborane gave, respectively, α-[(N, N-dibutylamino)-methyl]- and α - [(N, N - diheptylamino)methyl]- 3,6- bis(trifluoromethyl)-9-phenanthrenemethanols (VII and VIII).
