The present invention relates to new cerium (IV) complexes. Further, the present invention relates to electronically doped semiconductor materials and an electronic component comprising cerium (IV) complexes. A further object of the invention is the use of the cerium (IV) complexes as electron acceptors, especially as p-dopants and electron transport materials in organic electronic components.

6-tris(trifluoromethyl)benzoic acid. The acid has been well characterized by spectral and pKa data. The acid chloride is formed only slowly under stringent conditions. 2,4,6-Tris(trifluoromethyl)phenyllithium (1) reacts with acetaldehyde and acrolein to give the corresponding alcohols 5 and 8. Oxidation of the alcohols with the CrO3-pyridine complex affords the acetophenone 3 and the vinyl ketone 7 respectively. The reactions of 1 with trifluoroacetic anhydride and trimethylsilyl trifluoroacetate give low to moderate yields of the trifluoroacetophenone 6.
