Asymmetric scandium(III)-catalyzed rearrangement of 3-allyloxyflavones was utilized to prepare chiral, nonracemic 3,4-chromanediones in high yields and enantioselectivities. These synthetic intermediates have been further elaborated to novel heterocyclic frameworks including angular pyrazines and dihydropyrazines.
