A variety of tricarbonylcycloheptatrieneiron complexes on hydrogenation with Raney nickel in methanol under 50 bars of hydrogen have been transformed into the corresponding dihydro derivatives, which can be decomplexed with CAN to give the expected cycloheptadienes.
