  Another alternate approach based on the cyclodehydration of the ureic compounds (IV) was unsuccessful. The synthesis of I was accomplished by methylation of the 1,2,3,4-tetrahydro-5H-5-thioxo-1,4-benzodiazepine (VI) with dimethyl sulfate in methanol-dioxane.
