  Phenylethanolamines of the formula I ##STR1## wherein R is substituted phenyl or optionally substituted furyl, thienyl, or pyridyl, R.sub.5 is hydrogen, lower alkyl, or optionally substituted benzyl, R.sub.4, R.sub.6, R.sub.8, and R.sub.9 each are hydrogen or lower alkyl, R.sub.7 is hydrogen, halogen, or lower alkyl, Q is --CO--or --CH.sub.2 --, and L is hydrogen or lower alkylcarbonyl, and enantiomers, diastereoisomers and salts thereof; also, process for preparing the compounds.
