The invention relates to novel antitussive anilides and non-toxic acid addition salts thereof. These novel compounds have the general formula ##STR1## wherein n is an integer from 2 to 3, and substituents R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 are lower alkyl groups or form together with the nitrogen atom to which they are attached a piperidine ring which is substituted by a methyl group. The invention also relates to a process for preparing these novel compounds.
