Trimethylsilylamines, Me3Si-NR2, react with N-Cbz-L-serine-β-lactone in acetonitrile primarily by alkyl oxygen cleavage of the lactone ring to give optically pure N-Cbz-β-amino-L-alanine derivatives in good yields.
