    A water-soluble viscosity increasing agent consisting essentially of: (i) an ester of a 40 to 400 moles ethylene oxide adduct of polyhydric alcohol and a C8-36 branched fatty acid, (ii) an ester of polyethylene glycol having average molecular weight of 2,000 to 20,000 and a C8-36 branched fatty acid, and (iii) a 40 to 400 mole ethylene oxide adduct of an ester of a polyhydric alcohol and a C8-36 branched fatty acid. The viscosity increasing agent can increase the viscosity of solutions of various surface active agents, while maintaining their stability and solubility in the solutions. When it is formulated to a detergent suitable for washing textiles, tablewares, human skins, hairs and the like, it can provide a detergent composition with a proper viscosity as well as a good detergency.

    A process for producing an optically active alcohol comprising carrying out interesterification between a racemic alcohol and an ester selected from the group consisting of (a) a diester between a lower monohydric alcohol and a saturated dicarboxylic acid having 14 or more carbon atoms, (b) a triglyceride of a saturated fatty acid having 16 or more carbon atoms, and (c) a monoester between a lower monohydric alcohol and a saturated fatty acid having 18 or more carbon atoms in the presence of lipase, preferably heat-resistant lipase, and in the presence or absence of a solvent, preferably in the absence of a solvent, under a substantially water-free condition, separating an optically active alcohol rich in either one of R- and S-forms from the reaction mixture, and adding an optically inactive non-racemic alcohol to the residue of the previous step to carry out interesterification under the same conditions as in the previous reaction to separate the other enantiomer. According to the present invention a racemic alcohol can easily be resolved into each enantiomer with high purity in good yield.

    Disclosed is a method for producing a metal particle dispersion wherein a metal compound is reduced by using carbodihydrazide represented by the formula (1) below or a polybasic acid polyhydrazide represented by the formula (2) below (wherein R represents an n-valent polybasic acid residue) in a liquid medium. By reducing the metal compound in the presence of a compound having a function preventing discoloration of the metal, there can be obtained a metal particle dispersion having excellent discoloration preventing properties. Metal particles produced by such methods have a uniform particle diameter and are excellent in dispersion stability. By using a conductive resin composition or conductive ink containing a metal particle dispersion obtained by such production methods, there can be formed a conductive coating film, such as a conductive circuit or an electromagnetic layer, having good characteristics.

    A conductive coating film is formed on a substrate by bringing a conductive material covered with a protective material into contact with a material having anion exchange ability, through such a process wherein an anion exchange layer containing a material having anion exchange ability is formed on a substrate and then a layer containing a conductive material covered with a protective material is formed on the anion exchange layer, or alternatively through such a process wherein a layer containing a conductive material covered with a protective material is formed on a substrate and then an anion exchange layer containing a material having anion exchange ability is formed on the layer containing a conductive material. The anion exchange layer and the layer containing a conductive material may be formed by coating, printing or the like. By using this method, a conductive coating film having excellent adhesion to a substrate can be formed on an ordinary paper substrate, plastic substrate and glass substrate at low temperature in short time.
