A mild procedure for the thiocyanation of several types of arene substrate using N-thiocyanatosuccinimide (NTS) is described. The method appears generally applicable to benzenoid substrates with a wide range of substituents, as well as to heteroaromatic analogues such as indoles and thiophenes.
