Allylic acetate esters containing a variety of N-arylsulfonyl sulfoximines on the acetyl residue have been prepared and submitted to the decarboxylative Claisen rearrangementreaction. Rearranged products were isolated in generally good yields, and diastereoselectivities up to 82:18 have been obtained. Iron works: Enantioselectivenitrenetransfer to sulfide was accomplished by a chiraliron(III)/PyBOX catalyst (see scheme). Various sulfimides were thus obtained in high enantioselectivities and yields. Applications of this protocol to the syntheses of enantioenriched sulfoximines and an epoxide were also demonstrated.
