    A series of aryl phosphoglyceride (3, 19-6 1) and bis-aryl phosphate (67-135) antagonists of platelet activating factor (PAF) were prepared. A group of four bifunctional phosphorus reagents (5a-c and 7) were developed that allowed the preparation of these aryl phosphates in which the position of aromatic substitution can be varied. These compounds were examined for their ability to inhibit PAF-induced platelet aggregation of rabbit platelets. Selected compounds were also evaluated for their ability to displace [H-3]PAF from its receptor on rabbit platelets. These in vitro data were compared to similar data obtained for a number of known PAF antagonists. The compounds were evaluated in vivo, in both the mouse and rabbit, for their ability to prevent death induced by a lethal challenge of PAF. The relationships between the biological activity and the nature, lipophilicity, and position of substituents of the aromatic rings were studied. Compound 105 (CL 184005) has been selected to undergo further development as a potential therapeutic agent for the treatment of septic shock in man.

    Disclosed is a microemulsion of oil-in-water type including, preferably consisting of, by weight relative to the total weight of microemulsion: • 70% to 94% of water, • 1% to 15% of at least one hydrophobic fragrancing substance, • 4% to 20% of at least one preferably volatile solvo-surfactant, and • 0.1% to 15%, preferably 1% to 13%, of at least one hydrotropic agent or at least one surfactant selected from anionic surfactants, cationic surfactants, amphoteric surfactants and non-ionic surfactants. The solvo-surfactant is selected from monoalkylated glycerol derivatives of following formula (I): wherein the “alkyl” group is a linear or branched alkyl group including from 1 to 8 carbon atoms, and R and R′ are each independently H or a linear or branched alkyl group including from 1 to 5 carbon atoms, with the proviso that R is different from R′, and mixtures thereof.

    A process for the removal of water from gas which comprises an absorption step of bringing a gas ( 1 ) saturated with water vapour into gas-liquid contact with a water-lean absorbing liquid ( 3 ) comprising a water absorbing liquid having a cloud point temperature above the freezing point of water whereby water vapour present in the gas is absorbed into the water-lean absorbing liquid at a temperature below its cloud point to produce a refined gas ( 4 ) having a reduced water vapour content and water-loaded absorbing liquid ( 5 ); and a regeneration step of heating the water-loaded absorbing liquid ( 5 ) to above the cloud point temperature of the absorbing liquid whereby the water-loaded absorbing liquid separates into a water-rich phase ( 7 ) and an absorbing liquid-rich phase ( 8 ) and cooling the absorbing liquid-rich phase to a temperature below its cloud point prior to recycling the absorbing liquid-rich phase for use as water-lean absorbing liquid ( 3 ) in the absorption step.
