The protected hexadecapeptide, Z (OMe)-Pro-Cys (Bzl)-Lys (Z)-Ala-Arg (Tos)-Ile-Ile-Arg (Tos)-Tyr-Phe-Tyr-Asn-Ala-Lys (Z)-Ala-Gly-OH, corresponding to positions 13 through 28 of the basic trypsin inhibitor (Kunitz and Northrop) was synthesized by the successive azide coupling of four peptide subunits, H-Asn-Ala-Lys (Z)-Ala-Gly-OH, Z (OMe)-Tyr-Phe-Tyr-NHNH2, Z (OMe)-Ala-Arg (Tos)-Ile-Ile-Arg (Tos)-NHNH2 and Z (OMe)-Pro-Cys (Bzl)-Lys (Z)-NHNH2.
