Substituted 5-phenyl-13-aryl-isoindolo[2,1-a]quinoline dyes that exhibit two-photon absorption up to 375 GM have been synthesized via ruthenium-catalyzed ring-closing metathesis in tandem with a 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition reaction.
