A hexagonal diethynylbenzene macrocycle having exterior octyloxymethyl groups undergoes spontaneous polymerization at room temperature to form hardly soluble materials, in contrast to the corresponding dehydrotetramer and dehydrooctamer, which are stable enough to show their melting points at higher than 140 °C.
