The L-proline-catalyzed asymmetric Mannich reaction has been performed between aryl trifluoromethyl ketimines and acetone to provide, for the first time, chiral beta-aryl-beta-trifluoromethyl-beta-aminoketones in high yields and with 74-92% enantiomeric excesses.
