2-dichloro-3-phenylcyclopropanecarboxylic acid (1a) in hydroxylic solvents such as methanol and acetic acid, or in aqueous methanol with acetic acid in excess, was carried out with a platinum anode. Solvolysis rather than coupling was found to occur yielding 3,3-dichloro-1-phenylallyl methyl ether (4a) or 3,3-dichloro-1-phenylallyl acetate (5a), or both, depending on the solvent.
