Crystals of [Cu(o-Andp)(H2O)(2)] . 2H(2)O (where o-Andp(2-) is o-anisidine-NN-di-3-propionate) were synthesized and studied using X-ray diffraction analysis. The crystals are triclinic: a = 12.063(1) Angstrom, b = 12.483(3) Angstrom, c = 13.586(2) Angstrom, alpha = 91.29(1)degrees, beta = 111.67(1)degrees, gamma = 104.00(1)degrees, V = 1830.5(5) Angstrom (3), space group P (1) over bar, Z = 2, and R = 0.0528 for 5965 reflections with 1 greater than or equal to 2 sigma (I). The two crystal lographically independent complexes are isostructural. The tetragonal-bipyramidal coordination of copper(III) involves three O atoms, the N atom of the tetradentate ligand o-Andp(2-), and two O atoms from water. The aminodipropionate group of the ligand (average Cu-O 1.939 Angstrom and Cu-N 2.051 Angstrom) and one of the coordinated water molecules (Cu-O(w) 1.991 Angstrom) lie in the equatorial plane. The second water molecule (Cu-O(w) 2.32 Angstrom) and the methoxy O atom of o-Andp(2-) (Cu-O 2.37 Angstrom) are in the apical positions of the bipyramid.
