  Novel cyclopentanone derivatives are disclosed having the formula ##SPC1## In which R represents a hydrocarbon group of 3 to 7 carbon atoms, X represents a cyano, formyl, hydroxymethyl, lower alkoxymethyl, lower alkanoyloxymethyl or lower alkylcarbonyl group and Y represents an oxo or ketal group, With the proviso that R does not represent an n-pentyl group when, simultaneously, X represents a methylcarbonyl group and Y represents an oxo group. Processes for the preparation of the said cyclopentanone derivatives and also the use thereof in perfumes, cosmetic and other products are disclosed.
