  A bifunctional chiral thiourea―tertiary amine organocatalyst derived from cinchonine was employed to promote the enantioselective Friedel―Crafts alkylation of sesamol and 2-substituted sesamols with various aromatic nitro olefins. The reactions proceeded smoothly to provide the corresponding products in good yields (up to 97 %) and good enantioselectivities (up to 90 % ee).

  A remarkably mild and efficient cetrimonium bromide (CTAB) catalyzed Friedel-Crafts amidoalkylation of sesamol or its 2-substituted derivatives with N-Boc imines generated in situ was developed. A wide range of 6-amidoalkyl sesamols were synthesized in high yields. This methodology was also applicable to 2-naphthols.

  An unprecedented asymmetric aza-Friedel–Crafts reaction of sesamol with N-sulfonylimines has been reported. A variety of N-sulfonylimines reacts with sesamol derivatives in the presence of 6′-OH Cinchona alkaloids to provide a new series of chiral aminophenol adducts in good yield and good to high level of enantioselectivity.
