A series of isomalononitrile dithiolato palladium complexes, (PPh3)(2)Pd(i-mnt) (1), [P(OPh)(3)](2)Pd(i-mnt) (2), (PPh3)(py)Pd(i-mnt). CH3CN (3), (Et4N)(2)Pd(i-mnt)(2) (4) and (Ph4As)(2)Pd(i-mnt)(2) (5) were synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis and IR spectroscopy. The reaction between (Et4N)(2)Pd(i-mnt)(2) (4) and (Et4N)(2)WS4 gave a mixed metal cluster (Et4N)(2)WS4Pd(i-mnt) (6). The crystallographically determined structures of 1 and 6 are reported. In the structure of the title compound, [2,2-dimercapto-1,1-ethylenedicarbonitrilato(2-)-S,S'](pyridine-N)- (triphenylphosphine-P)palladium(II)-acetonitrile (1/1), [Pd(C4N2S2)(C5H5N)(C18H15P)].CH3CN, the Pd atom is coordinated by the two S atoms of the dimercaptoethylenedicarbonitrilate ligand acting as a bidentate ligand, the P atom from triphenylphosphine and the N atom from pyridine, with Pd-S distances of 2.288 (2) and 2.340(1) Angstrom, a Pd-P distance of 2.300(1)lq and a Pd-N distance of 2.082 (3) Angstrom. The S-Pd-S angle is 75.35 (4)degrees.
