  Polymer supported ferric chloride catalyst is prepared and characterized by IR, SEM, TEM, EDS, TGA, ICP-MS and XRD. The heterogenized Lewis acid catalyst was found to efficiently promote three component Biginelli reaction, where the 3,4-dihydropyrimidine-2(1H)-ones/thiones were efficiently synthesized from urea/thiourea.
