A series of bis[3-(4'-substituted phenyl)prop-2-ene]disulfides were prepared and their hypolipidemic activities were examined in hypercholesterolemic Wistar rats. Introduction of an electron withdrawing group to the phenyl ring in the parent compound led to the identification of compound 8 as a potent and efficacious hypolipidemic agent.

A one pot conversion of alcohols to disulfides in good yields via the activation of a hydroxyl group with DCC or P(NMe2)3 / CCl4 followed by treatment with benzyltriethylammonium tetrathiomolybdate is reported.

Abstract A highly efficient and environmentally friendly method for the imidazole promoted preparation of symmetrical organic disulfides fromBuntesalts is described. This thiol-free procedure produces the desired disulfides even on a large scale by reaction of Buntesalts with imidazole in good to high yields in aqueous media.
