This report describes the preparation of carbon-14 labeled dibutyltin dichloride from carbon-14 labeled barium carbonate in 30% overall radiochemical yield. The key steps were (a) the preparation of carbon-14 labeled butyl bromide from carbon-14 labeled barium carbonate via carbon-14 labeled butyl mesylate, and (b) the direct preparation of tetrabutyltin by the lithium-mediated reaction of dibutyltin dichloride with carbon-14 labeled butyl bromide.
