  A simple and novel method to the synthesis of 3-fluoro-4-aryl-2-pyridone from a Michael-adduct of fluoronitroacetate and alpha,beta-unsaturated ketone is reported.   1,2-Difluorodinitroethylene was synthesized by flash vacuum pyrolysis of 1,2-difluorotetranitroethane. X-ray crystallography showed that one of the two nitro groups is out of the plane of the rest of the molecule and that the C-C double-bond distance is unusually short at 1.284 angstrom. 1,2-Difluorotetranitroethane reacted with alcohols to give alkyl fluoronitroacetates and with anthracene and cyclopentadiene to give Diels-Alder adducts.

  α-Fluoro-α-nitro esters were used as reaction partners in Michael addition to nitroalkenes, and the products were obtained in excellent chemical yields and with high enantioselectivities. Moreover, α-fluoro-α-amino ester with a quaternary α-carbon was prepared for the first time.
