Synthesis of imines fromamines and aliphatic alcohols (C1–C6) in the presence of base on supported palladium nanoparticles has been achieved for the first time. The catalytic system shows high activity and selectivity in open air at room temperature.

The addition of bis(trimethylsilyl) phosphonite to N-(diphenylmethyl) imines 1 yields bis(trimethylsilyl) 1-(diphenylmethylamino) alkylphosphonites 2, which can be easily converted into 1-(diphenylmethylamino)-alkylphosphonous acids 3 by treatment with aqueous alcohol.

From carboxylic acid trifluoromethyl aziridines, halogeno β-lactams were obtained stereoselectively by ringexpansion. Different conditions such as radical, organometallic reactions allowed easy and selective access to CF3-β-lactams substituted at the C-3 position.
