Methyl α-methoxyacrylate reacts stereoselectively with aryl iodides and vinyl triflates under palladium catalysis to give enol ethers of arylpyruvates and of β,γ-unsaturated α-keto esters in good to moderate yields.

investigates a synthetic sequence for the preparation of 1,2-diketone products. The sequence avoids oxidative conditions and instead employs reliable transformations including the Horner–Wadsworth–Emmons and addition of Grignard reagents to N-methyl-N-methoxy (Weinreb) amide intermediates. The reaction sequence is suitable for the synthesis of nonsymmetric aliphatic and aryl substituted derivatives.
1-Hydroxy-2,6-diaryl-4-piperidone ketal derivatives of formulae I-III are novel compounds and are effective process stabilizers for polymers processed at elevated temperatures providing both good melt flow stabilization and good resistance against discoloration during said processing.
