The reaction of arylvinyl alkoxides with chloro(aryl)carbenes provided the corresponding arylvinyl epoxides that underwent Nazarov cyclization in a catalytic amount of scandium triflate, providing easy access to several highly substituted indenes, including some resveratrol-derived natural products.

A radical/polarcrossover manifold permits annulations between allylarenes and Giese-type accepters, providing a route to functionalized tetralins. The reaction conditions are mild and therefore exhibit significant functional group tolerance. The annulation products are formally cycloadducts of styrenes and electron-deficient alkenes, and they can be used to form a variety of strained ring products

Regioselective titanium alkoxide-mediated reductive cross-coupling reactions of allylic alcohols with vinylsilanes and imines have previously been demonstrated to proceed with allylic transposition by formal metallo-[3,3]-rearrangement [thought to proceed by a sequence of: (1) directed carbometalation, and (2) syn-elimination]. While many examples have been described that support this reaction path, a collection of substrates have recently been identified that react by way of an alternative pathway, delivering a concise convergent route to coupled products bearing a quaternary center.
