A Convenient (E)-Stereoselective Synthesis of Alkenylphosphonates

Diethyl (E)-alkenylphosphonates have been prepared stereoselectively by dehydration of the corresponding beta-hydroxyphosphonates using DCC/CuCl2 in refluxing toluene. Starting beta-hydroxyphosphonates were obtained in high yield from diethyl methylphosphonate.

Copper-catalyzed decarboxylative coupling reactions of conjugated β,γ-unsaturated carboxylic acids have been achieved for allylic amination, alkylation, sulfonylation, and phosphinoylation. This approach was effective for a broad scope of amino, alkyl, sulfonyl, and phosphinoyl radical precursors as well as various conjugated β,γ-unsaturated carboxylic acids. These reactions also feature high regioselectivity
γ-Amino-β-hydroxyphosphonates, useful intermediates for the synthesis of phosphonic acid analogues of carnitine, were prepared as their protected derivatives in an enantioselective manner from β,γ-unsaturated phosphonates through asymmetric dihydroxylation and subsequent regioselective amination via the cyclic sulfates.

An efficient Pd‐catalyzedolefination of N‐tosylhydrazones as β‐diazophosphonateprecursors with aryl halides was described. A series of 2,2‐disubstituted vinylphosphonates and (2,2‐diphenylvinyl)diarylphosphine oxides were easily obtained in moderate to excellent yields.
