Novel β-hydroxy-,β-amino- and β-mercapto- dialkyl- and phenyl-alkyl tellurides have been achieved through regioselectiveringopening reactions of oxiranes, aziridines and thiiranes with different Te-nucleophiles, including tellurosilanes. Tellurium-125 NMR chemical shifts of selected compounds have been measured.
The thiol peroxidase-like activity of a series of novel functionalized tellurium containing catalysts has been investigated with different models. Dialkyl- and aryl-alkyl-tellurides, conveniently achieved through the ring opening of strained heterocycles, exhibited remarkable catalytic antioxidant activity, being able to reduce hydrogen peroxide in the presence of different thiols (benzenethiol, dithiothreitol
intermediate with another molecule of episulfide, followed by intramolecular oxidation of two sulfur units. When using bis(trimethylsilyl)selenide, the reaction with thiiranes and TBAF affords a smooth access to a novel class of disubstituted-1,2,5-dithiaselenepanes.
Bis(trimethylsilyl)selenide in the Selective Synthesis of β-Hydroxy, β-Mercapto, and β-Amino Diorganyl Diselenides and Selenides Through Ring Opening of Strained Heterocycles
dialkyl diselenides and selenides is described through reaction of bis(trimethylsilyl)selenide with epoxides, thiiranes, and aziridines catalyzed by tetrabutylammonium fluoride. Selective formation of a wide variety of β-hydroxy, β-mercapto, and β-amino diselenides and selenides is achieved by controlling the reaction conditions in the regioselective attack of the silylselenide onto the ring-strained

A series of 1-substituted taurines, including optically active taurines, were synthesized expeditiously from epoxides via episulfidation with potassium sulfocyanate, ring-opening with dibenzylamine, followed by oxidation with performic acid, and hydrogenolysis in the presence of palladium hydroxide on carbon powder. This method was also used for the synthesis of trans-cyclic taurines.
