Acyl transfer from p-nitrophenyl trimethylacetate to hydrogen peroxide in millimolar aqueous solutions of an amphiphilic poly(ethylene oxide)–poly(propylene oxide)–poly(ethylene oxide) triblock copolymer slows down as the temperature is raised due to partitioning of the hydrophobic ester into heat-induced micelles.

A new type of SN2′ reaction in which the nucleophile enters to the leaving group occurs in the acylolysis of 4β-bromo-3-keto-5β-steroids (1) to give 2α-acyloxy-3-keto-5β-steroids (2) as a product. This reaction pathway was observed by NMR and by tlc.

A nickel(II) complex reacted with peroxyphenylacetic acid to yield a nickel(III)–(hydr)oxide adduct (stabilized through a hydrogen-bonding interaction to an acetate co-ligand) that displayed all the reactivity properties of a terminal nickel-oxide oxidant.

Selective carboxylic acid decarboxylation was elaborated. Generation of acyltrifluoroacetyl peroxides from carboxylic peracids and trifluoroacetyl anhydride (Method A), as well as from trifluoroperacetic acid and acyltrifluoroacetyl anhydride (Method B), leads to simultaneous peroxide decomposition into the corresponding alkyltrifluoroacetates. DFT computations, as well as experimental data, support an acid-catalyzed heterolytic mechanism for acyltrifluoroacetyl peroxide decomposition. (C) 2002 Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights reserved.
