  Enantiopure N-benzyloxycarbonyl-protected and free 3-substituted homotaurines were synthesized from naturally occurring amino acids via N-benzyloxycarbonyl protection, Arndt-Eistert homologation, reduction, esterification with thioacetic acid, and oxidation with performic acid.
