A simple and efficient procedure for the synthesis of three new series of chalcogen liquid crystals, based on selenides and diselenides, containingcholesterol in their structure, is described. Thermal and liquid crystalline properties were investigated by POM, DSC, TGA and XRD scattering. Six of the nine molecules synthesized showed liquid crystal properties, with smectic mesomorphism. All the compounds
An intermolecular aminoselenation of alkenes with sulfonimides and diselenides is achieved via a visible-light-induced three component reaction. A broad variety of aminoselenation products is accessible in good yields with excellent functional group compatibility. Additional features of this new protocol include being additive- and photocatalyst-free and the use of natural sunlight as well as suitability

The reduction of selenium with lithium in THF in the presence of diphenylacetylene as a catalyst afforded lithium diselenide, which reacted with electrophiles giving alkyl or aryl diselenides 1 - 3 and selenides 4, as by-products. The useful method for preparation of diselenides based on this reaction was elaborated.

generated 1,2-oxaselenolane Se-oxide (31) in situ by a series of oxidation and [2,3]sigmatropic rearrangement steps. The remarkably active cyclic seleninate 31 proved to be the true catalyst, reacting with the thiol via a postulated mechanism in which the thioseleninate 32 is first produced, followed by further thiolysis to selenenic acid 33 and oxidation-dehydration to regenerate 31. Dialkyl diselenides have been prepared from alkyl halides, sodium borohydride and elemental selenium using two different methods. One of them involves the intermediate formation of diselenide dianion equivalent (-SeSe-).
