The reaction of homoleptic beryllium halide with diphenyl beryllium complexes leads to the clean formation of heteroleptic beryllium Grignard compounds [(L)1-2BePhX]1-2 (X=Cl, Br, I; L=C-, N-, O-donor ligand).
