The cycloacylation of aniline derivatives to 4-quinolones in the presence of Eaton's reagent is described. This high-yielding methodology is applicable to a wide variety of functionalized anilines and requires milder conditions than those traditionally employed. This cyclization protocol is used to prepare a host of heterocycles and bis-quinolones and is characterized by relatively low reaction temperature and ease of product isolation.

Palladium-catalyzed cyclization of β-(2-halophenyl)amino substituted α,β-unsaturated ketones and esters, prepared from 2-haloanilines by three different methods, gave 2,3-disubstituted indoles.
amine group in polyaryl-substituted imidazole structures with phenyl isocyanate or dimethyl acetylenedicarboxylate gave two new series of polyaryl-substituted imidazoles: biaryl ureas or vinyl esters, respectively. Besides their spectroscopic analysis, we explored the optical and electrochemical properties of these highly conjugated scaffolds. Comparing these properties in two categories of products yielded
