Abstract In the solid state, the compound [Hg(SCH 2 CH 2 CONHCH 3 ) 2 ] is characterized by mercury-sulphur bonds with no interaction between mercury and the amide group. The two Hg-S bonds are almost co-linear (S(1)-Hg-S(2) = 177.6(4)°). The v HgS stretching vibrations (382 and 340 cm −1 ) are consistent with the short Hg-S distance (2.35(1) A).
