A method of treating a disease mediated by protein expression in adipose tissue by intraperitoneally administering a composition comprising a lipid nanoparticle encapsulating or associated with a therapeutic agent (e.g., a nucleic acid), thereby delivering the therapeutic agent to adipose tissue of the subject and altering protein expression in the adipose tissue is provided herein.
