  (EN) An improvement in a process for the haloalkylation of a first aromatic compound having at least one free ring position with a haloalkylating reagent and in the presence of a haloalkylation catalyst, said process producing a haloalkylated first aromatic compound and a dimeric reaction by-product of said first aromatic compound having at least one free ring position, the improvement comprising treating said by-product with a second aromatic compound having at least one free ring position the same or different than said first aromatic compound in the presence of a catalytically effective amount of an acid for a time and at a temperature sufficient to cleave said diarylalkane by-product and produce thereby said first aromatic compound having at least one free ring position.(FR) L'invention se rapporte à l'amélioration apportée à un procédé d'haloalkylation d'un premier composé aromatique ayant au moins une position libre dans le noyau, ce procédé s'effectuant avec un réactif d'haloalkylation et en présence d'un catalyseur d'haloalkylation. Ce procédé consiste à produire un premier composé aromatique haloalkylé et un sous-produit de réaction dimère de ce premier composé aromatique ayant au moins une position libre dans le noyau. L'amélioration consiste à traiter le sous-produit avec un second composé aromatique ayant au moins une position libre dans le noyau, identique ou différent du premier, en présence d'une quantité efficace au niveau catalytique d'un acide, sur une durée et à une température suffisantes pour cliver le sous-produit diarylalcane et produire ainsi le premier composé aromatique ayant une position libre dans le noyau.
