Taking the air! A PdII‐catalyzed intramolecular hydroamination of allenes coupled to alcohol oxidation has been developed. This reaction is performed by using a nitrogen‐based ligand under aerobic conditions, under which the molecular oxygen is used as the terminal oxidant for the reoxidation of Pd0 species to complete the catalyticcycle.
Allenic β-ketoesters and , readily prepared from allenic alcohols, lead respectively to the compounds and under the action of catalytic amounts of yellow mercury (II) oxide and p-toluenesulfonic acid.
A series of allenic tosylamides have been prepared and shown to undergo palladium(II)-catalyzed cyclization in the presence of lithium bromide and a copper(II) salt to give pyrrolidines. Palladium-catalyzed 1,2-oxidation of allenic lactams in the presence of LiBr and p-benzoquinone was also studied. (C) 2000 Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights reserved.
