An efficient and facile approach to the regioselective synthesis of N-tosyloxazolidinones from the corresponding N-tosylaziridines and CO2 was developed using dual catalytic systems involving an early transition metal coordination compound as a Lewis acid and a nucleophilic cocatalyst. Among the screened Lewis acids, halogen-free niobium pentaethoxide (Nb(OEt)5) displayed the best catalytic activity
Smart ammonium ferrates [TBA][FeXIst3Y] as catalyst for the transformation of aziridines and CO2 into 5-substituted 1,3-oxazolidine-2-ones under mild reaction conditions (room temperature and atmospheric pressure) are reported.

A binary catalyst system composed of n-Bu4NBr3/n-Bu4NBr was developed for facile synthesis of 5-substituted 2-oxazolidinones with perfect regioselectivity in a single operation directly from olefins, chloramine-T and CO2. The choice of efficient binary catalysts for two steps, i.e. aziridination and cycloaddition, and the optimization of reaction condition are keys to the one-pot synthesis of 5-substituted 2-oxazolidinones. A possible mechanism for the present one-pot synthesis of oxazolidinones was also proposed. (C) 2010 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

oxazolidinon-2-ones from amino alco- hols and carbondioxide is well known. Until now it was not possi- ble to reduce the fixed carbondioxide to any basic chemical likeformaldehyde or methanol, only the less interesting N-methyl com- pounds were formed with lithium aluminium hydride. Here we show the reduction of a oxazolidin-2-one derivative to methanol and the corresponding sulfone amide after introducing
