Allylic organotin compounds react with numerous organic halides by a substitution pathway with complete allylic shift. The radical chain mechanism proposed is supported by the reactivity sequences of halides, the stereochemistry, the influence of radical initiators or inhibitors, rearrangement, polar effects and the side products.
