An efficient and regioselective synthesis of 2-imino-1,3-selenazolidin-4-ones and 2-amino-1,3,4-selenadiazin-5-ones was achieved via one-pot reaction of isoselenocyanates, hydrazines, and ethyl chloroacetate or chloroacetyl chloride, respectively. In suspension: The reaction of aziridines with heterocumulenes in the presence of Fe(NO3)3⋅9 H2O in aqueous suspension provides access to functionalized five‐membered heterocycles in good to high yields. This protocol has a wide substrate scope, is simple, and uses a nontoxic and cheap catalyst.

An efficient one-pot procedure for the synthesis of 2-aminobenzimidazoles from isoselenocyanates and various substituted diamines is described. Precipitation of elemental selenium from the reaction mixture greatly simplifies the purification procedure and also allows it to be re-used for preparation of isoselenocyanates. A possible mechanism for the formation of 2-aminobenzimidazoles is proposed.

The cycloaddition of aziridines with isothiocyanates, isoselenocyanates and carbon disulfide has been described using pyrrolidine as catalyst on water at moderate temperature. This protocol features the use of commercial amine as catalyst and water as solvent affording a potential route for the construction of five membered heterocycles in high yields.

A synthesis in good to excellent yields of 23 4H-benzo[d][1,3]oxazin-4-ones, 18 of which are novel, from monosubstituted anthranilic acids and variously substituted phenyl isoselenocyanates without using any harsh reagents has been developed. The Se powder precipitated during the reaction could be efficiently recycled for the preparation of the aryl isoselenocyanates.
