Mixed ligand complexes of cis-dichloromethionineplatinum(II) and cis-dichloromethioninepalladium(II) with substituted pyrimidines

Mixed ligand complexes of cis-dichloromethionineplatinum(II), [Pt(meth)Cl2], with pyrimidines, 2-hydroxypyrimidinehydrochloride, 5-aminouracil, 2-thiocytosine, isocytosine and mixed ligand complexes of cis-dichloromethioninepalladium(II), [Pd(meth)Cl2], with pyrimidines, 2-hydroxypyrimidinchydrochloride, 5-aminouracil and 4,6-diamino-2-thiopyrimidine were synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, IR, UV, H-1 NMR and C-13 NMR spectra. In these mixed ligand complexes methionine coordinates to the metal ion through sulphur and the amino nitrogen, thus leaving a free carboxylic acid group. The pyrimidines, 2-hydroxypyrimidinehydrochloride, 4,6-diamino-2-thiopyrimidine, isocytosine and 2-thiocytosine act as monodentate ligands and bind to the metal ion through N3, while 5-aminouracil coordinates to the metal ion through the amino (NH2) group.
