  α-Human atrial natriuretic peptide (α-hANP) was synthesized by assembling six peptide fragments in solution followed by deprotection with HF and subsequent air-oxidation. The trimethylbenzyl group was employed as an S-protecting group of cysteine. The HF-dimethylselenide-m-cresol system was employed as a final deprotecting reagent and, at the same time, as a reducing reagent of Met(O). Syntheric α-hANP elicited potent diuretic and natriuretic activity in rats.

  Synthesis of four vasopressin analogues which do not contain the glycinamine residue in position 9 and have a basic non-coded amino acid in position 8 is described. All the analogues exhibit very low endocrine activities and are effective in the passive avoidance test.

  The Barnase-like Domain in DNA-Directed RNA Polymerase II of Saccharomyces cerevisiae containing three cysteine residues was synthesized by a thioester method. A partially-protected cysteine-containing peptide thioester was prepared via a peptide obtained by a solid-phase method using 3-nitro-2-pyridinesulfenyl amino acid derivatives. Four peptide segments covering 112 amino acid residues of the barnase-like domain were condensed from the C-terminal to the N-terminal one by one in the presence of silver ions and N-hydroxysuccinimide to give a full sequence peptide. RNase activity of the synthetic domain could not be detected because of its extreme low solubility in the neutral buffer.
