L2(CO)3Fe, when L is P(OMe)3, reacts with HgX2 (X = l, Br, I) to form 11 adducts which are formulated, on the basis of infrared spectra and conductivity measurements, as metal donor-acceptor complexes L2(CO)3Fe→HgX2, and 14 (X = Cl) or 12 (X = Br, I) adducts that dissociate in nitrobenzene solution, affording ionic species [L2(CO)3FeHgX]+ [HgX3]−.
