    A composition comprising monomers copolymerized in the following percentages by weight: (a) from about 20% to about 95% of a monomer, or mixture of monomers, of formula (I): R f —(CH 2 CF 2 ) q (CH 2 CH 2 ) r -Z-C(O)—C(R)═CH 2 (I) wherein q and r are each independently integers of 1 to 3; R f is a linear or branched perfluoroalkyl group having 2 to 6 carbon atoms; Z is —O—, —NR 1 — or —S—; R is hydrogen, Cl, F or CH 3 ; R 1 is hydrogen, or a C 1 to C 4 alkyl; and (b) from about 5% to about 80% of at least one of: (i) an alkyl (meth)acrylate monomer having a linear, branched or cyclic alkyl group of 6 to 18 carbons; or (ii) a monomer of formula (II): (R 2 ) 2 N—R 3 —O—C(O)—C(R)═CH 2 (II) wherein R is as defined above; each R 2 is independently a C 1 to C 4 alkyl; and R 3 is a divalent linear or branched C 1 to C 4 alkylene; and wherein the nitrogen is from about 40% to 100% salinized; or (iii) a mixture thereof; said composition providing oil repellency, water repellency, and stain resistance to substrates contacted therewith; and a method for treating substrates with such copolymer compositions; are disclosed.

    The present invention discloses an aqueous polymerization medium comprising (1) a catalyst composition which contains (a) an organometallic compound and (b) a transition metal compound wherein said catalyst composition is microencapsulated in a polyene product; and (2) water. This invention also discloses an aqueous polymerization medium comprising (1) a catalyst composition which is prepared by dissolving in an inert organic solvent containing at least one polyene (a) a transition metal compound, and (b) an organometallic compound; and (2) water. This aqueous polymerization medium is very useful in the polymerization of unsaturated hydrocarbon monomers. It is of greatest value in the polymerization of conjugated diolefin monomers into stereo-regulated polymers. This invention reveals a very useful process for producing polybutadiene composed essentially of syndiotactic 1,2-polybutadiene in an aqueous medium comprising polymerizing 1,3-butadiene in said aqueous medium in the presence of (1) a catalyst composition microencapsulated in a polyene product which contains (a) at least one cobalt compound selected from the group consisting of (i) ß-diketone complexes of cobalt, (ii) ß-keto acid ester complexes of cobalt, (iii) cobalt salts of organic carboxylic acids having 6 to 15 carbon atoms, and (iv) complexes of halogenated cobalt compounds of the formula CoXn, wherein X represents a halogen atom and n represents 2 or 3, with an organic compound selected from the group consisting of tertiary amine alcohols, tertiary phosphines, ketones and N,N-dialkylamides, and (b) at least one organoaluminum compound of the formula AIR3, wherein R represents a hydrocarbon radical of 1 to 6 carbon atoms; and (2) carbon disulfide.

    Short fibers of syndiotactic 1,2-polybutadiene are utilized in making tires that have improved resistance against heat build-up and improved wear characteristics. The preparation of syndiotactic 1,2-polybutadiene in fibrous form has traditionally involved an extrusion and stretching step. However, the technique of the present invention circumvents the necessity of hot mill flexing and/or extrusion in making fibrous syndiotactic 1,2-polybutadiene. The present invention more specifically involves a process for preparing syndiotactic 1,2- polybutadiene fibers directly comprising polymerizing 1,3-butadiene monomer in the presence of (1) a catalyst composition which is comprised of (a) a cobalt compound and (b) an organoaluminum compound; (2) carbon disulfide; and (3) at least one member selected from the group consisting of liquid polymers and naphthenic oils.

    This invention reveals a technique for preparing syndiotactic 1,2-polybutadiene latex. It more specifically discloses a process for synthesizing syndiotactic 1,2-polybutadiene latex by polymerizing 1,3-butadiene in an aqueous medium in the presence of (1) at least one emulsifier, (2) a catalyst emulsion composition which is prepared by a microfluidization or microemulsification process, and (3) at least one member selected from the group consisting of carbon disulfide and phenyl isothiocyanate. Such syndiotactic 1,2-polybutadiene latices can be utilized in preparing blends of syndiotactic 1,2-polybutadiene with rubbers which are prepared by emulsion polymerization.
