The pracitally unknown α-secondary allylamines 1 have been synthesised in good to very good yields by reaction of allylaminonitriles 7 with Grignard reagents. The reaction is regio- and stereoselective and can also be run with α-aminonitriles 9 and vinyl Grignard reagents.

A simple and general method has been developed for the synthesis of α-aminonitriles by a one-pot three-component condensation of aldehydes or ketones, amines and potassium cyanide in THF in presence of a catalytic amount of indium trichloride.

Abstract A three‐component reaction between aliphatic or aromatic aldehyde, an amine and trimethylsilyl cyanide mediated by solid LiClO4, gave amino nitriles in good to excellent yields. The reaction proceeded smoothly under solvent‐free conditions without any side products.
