    In a process for the preparation of aliphatic .alpha.,.omega.-diols of 4 to 12 carbon atoms from aliphatic .alpha.,.omega.-dicarboxylic acids of 4 to 12 carbon atoms, an oligo ester is first of all formed from diol and dicarboxylic acid and is subsequently subjected to catalytic hydrogenation in the liquid phase. The hydrogenation is carried out continuously at from 180.degree. to 250.degree. C. and at an H.sub.2 pressure of from 100 to 400 bar over a catalyst in piece form comprising compressed powders of Cu, Zn and Al oxides which do or do not contain at least one oxide of metals of the iron group of the Periodic Table of the Elements (Mendeleev) or of manganese. The quantity of H.sub.2 is from 20 to 100 times the stoichiometrically required quantity.

    The present invention provides a coated granular pesticide comprising a granular pesticide, which comprises at least one hardly water-soluble active ingredient and at least one water-swelling substance, and a thermoplastic resin-based film which covers the surface of the granular pesticide; a method for producing the same; and applications thereof. It is preferred to incorporate, into the film, a surfactant, inorganic powder insoluble or hardly soluble in water, water-absorbing and/or water-soluble polymer fine powder, a thermosetting resin, or a biodegradable polymer insoluble or hardly soluble in water, or a combination thereof. The coated granular pesticide of the present invention can externally release the hardly water-soluble active ingredient according to the following mechanism, due to the combined effects of the thermoplastic resin as the film-forming component and the water-swelling component as the core component. The water-swelling substance absorbs the water present in the exterior of the coated granular pesticide, which gradually penetrates into the granule through the coating film, the granular pesticide containing the water-swelling substance gradually expands, cracks are thus formed on the film after the elapse of a predetermined time, a large amount of water rapidly enters into the granule through the cracks thus formed, the coated granular pesticide is rapidly swollen to thus greatly grow the cracks and to thus rapidly disintegrate the film and the hardly water-soluble active ingredient included in the coated granular pesticide is thus brought into close contact with a large amount of water to externally release the active ingredient. The foregoing components to be incorporated into the film serve to control the disintegration time of the resulting film. The gradual release of the hardly water-soluble active ingredient is initiated after a predetermined time from the application of the coated granular pesticide and therefore, the latter exhibits a desired efficacy depending on a particular crop without being accompanied by any problem of damages of crops from the pesticide and of environmental load. For instance, the coated granular pesticide of the present invention may directly be applyed on the ground or may be used in the form of a mixture with soil, but preferably the coated granule is used in the form of a substrate for raising seedlings, which may be obtained by admixing with a seedling-support substance having water-holding properties.

    The first aspect of the present invention relates to a particle-state composition for agriculture and gardening characterized in that a coating material A or a mixture composed of the coating material A and a coating material B is coated on a particle-state fertilizer, and the coating material A is a biodegradable cellulose ester composition, and the coating material B is at least one selected from the group consisting of an olefin polymer, a copolymer containing an olefin, a polyvinylidene chloride, a copolymer containing vinylidene chloride, a diene-based polymer, waxes, a petroleum resin, a natural resin, a cellulose acetate resin, a polycaprolactone, and oils & fats and a modified product therefrom. The second aspect of the present invention relates to a biodegradable resin composition which comprises the lactone resin, the synthetic aliphatic polyester resin, and the metallic salt or amide of a fatty acid, wherein the weight ratio of the lactone resin/the synthetic aliphatic polyester resin ranges in 5/95-70/30, and a proportion of the metallic salt of a fatty acid or an amide of a fatty acid is 0.2-5 parts by weight based on 100 parts by weight of the total amount of the lactone resin and the synthetic aliphatic polyester resin, and it relates to a film molded therefrom by an inflation method. The third aspect of the present invention is a bag for garbages in which the above-mentioned bag for garbages is particularly processed as a bag for removing water having many small openings.

    The present invention [I] relates to a biodegradable polyester resin composition comprising an aliphatic polyester resin, a polycaprolactone, and inorganic additives, in which the ratio of the aliphatic polyester resin with respect to the polycaprolactone is 100 parts by weight/1-200 parts by weight and, the ratio of total amount of the aliphatic polyester resin and the polycaprolactone with respect to the inorganic additives is 95-50% by weight/5-50% by weight. The present invention [II] relates to a biodegradable throw-away glove obtained by T-die molding a polyester resin composition in which 1-200 parts by weight of a polycaprolactone is mixed with 100 parts by weight of an aliphatic polyester resin to obtain a film having thickness of 40 µm, and two layers of the film are doubled up to heat-seal into a glove-shape, and circumferential portions are cut off.
