The unconventional Z-selective halosulfonylation of terminal alkynes has been achieved by using CuX (X = Cl, Br, I)/sulfonohydrazides at rt, providing a practical and new route for the synthesis of diverse halogenated vinyl sulfones.
Chlorothiolation of terminalalkynes with sulfenylchlorides yields anti‐adducts without transition‐metal catalysts. In sharp contrast, transition‐metal‐catalyzed chlorothiolation has not been developed to date, possibly because organosulfur compounds can poison catalyst. The addition reaction of sulfonylchlorides with acetylenes in the presence of a copper salt is described. The reaction proceeds in toluene in the presence of CuCl with Me2S as the additive to afford only (Z)-beta-chlorovinyl sulfones in moderate to excellent yields.
