  N-Hydroxysuccinimido esters of aromatic carboxylic acids (a.k.a. active esters) can be made using a potentially general, one-step procedure via Pd-catalyzed carbonylation of an aryl triflate or aryl iodide with CO and N-hydroxysuccinimide.
